What do you get in a Usability Study or User Workshop?
Usability is a quality attribute that assesses how easy user interfaces are to use.  Fresh Tilled Soil will manage a usability study for your company from recruiting and screening participants all the way to reporting and follow up studies.  In general the Usability Study or Workshop will take one (1) day excluding the time required to recruit and screen user testing participants. Most studies involve 6-10 people screened by either your company or by the Fresh Tilled Soil team and asked a variety of questions based their experience when using your application.  Usability Studies involve the observation of real users interacting with a product to identify usability problems, possible improvements, and future strategic or marketing directions. During our usability testing Fresh Tilled Soil will be observing participants attempt to achieve goals or objectives using either the actual site or a web prototype of an application.  The objective is to test the application in a realistic way, to discover errors and areas of improving the application.

At the conclusion of usability study Fresh Tilled Soil will provide a detailed report which will be reviewed by Your Management Team and the Fresh Tilled Soil team during a follow up meeting.

Why do designs need to be tested?
Designers commonly focus excessively on creating designs that look "cool", compromising usability and functionality.  This is often caused by pressure from the people in charge, forcing designers to develop systems based on management expectations instead of people's needs. A designer's primary function should be more than appearance, including making things work with people.
