BenchFly was a great project for us to work us, both because of its design challenges and also because of its business model, offering a great deal of consultative and strategic advice.

The Challenge
The scientific community has been surprisingly slow to the social networking world. Cambridge, MA-based Alan Marnett, PhD, decided to create a site to allow scientists from all disciplines to share their knowledge across a social network platform. This site would need to be exciting enough to attract a wide audience and be robust in scaling to almost any capacity. BenchFly would also be raising money during the development process so they needed a prototype to give them an advantage when talking to potential investors.
Solution & Results
BenchFly’s requirement for a prototype was right up our alley. Our designers created the entire site in HTML/CSS before linking up any application layer or database elements. This allowed the site to be presented and tested for several months, collecting valuable feedback from stakeholders and prospective users. This feedback provided us with the data we needed to prioritize essential stories and produce a site with the minimal marketable features.
