I totally agree, the larger and deeper connections you make with your network the more referrals you will receive. Referrals and positive word-of-mouth are the most effective ways to build a business. While you can’t directly control how referrals are made, you can create an environment in which they can be made easily. If you want to learn more about how to get greater referrals check out this free ebook (http://www.inspirecard.net/100-tips-to-business-networking/)

Elaine, we use a simple one-page agreement that states the terms clearly. Here are the key points:

5% during the first 12 months: The Recipient will remit to the Referring Party 10%, or whatever amount is agreed in writing, of: i) the net fees it collects from the client company during the 12 months following the date of the initial referral; but not the gross fees it earned, but did not collect ("Accrued Fees") for the same client company during the 12 months following the date of the initial referral at the time those fees are paid by the client.

2% during the second 12 months: Should the same client retain the services of the Recipient after the initial 12 months have passed, a referral fee of 5% of all net fees collected or earned in the second 12 months will be paid. At the expiry of 24 months from initial referral, neither party will be obligated to remit any further fees, for that referred client, to the other.

Transfer of contract: Should the Referrer pass along a contract that has already been negotiated and Fresh Tilled Soil agrees to accept the work, a fee of 15% of the gross fees will be paid to the Referrer. At acceptance of the initial referral, neither party will be obligated to remit any further fees, for that referred client, to the other.

I wanted to ask if there are special agreements that one would need to have signed by the referral source. For instance, I am interested in working with different dermatologists, dieticians, etc, and my plan is to have them refer our services and we would refer theirs when applicable. Should I create an agreement for something like this, have you ever seen an agreement like this before.? Is there a title for this kind of agreement though it does not request exchange of monetary incentives? Thank you,
