Tales from #random: Growth-hacking with Joseph Gordon-Levitt

by Tim Wright

Here at Fresh Tilled Soil, we use Slack for our internal communication. Today, in our #random channel this riveting conversation about Joseph Gordon-Levitt & UXFest emerged. It was too good not to share… it lasted an hour.

Tim Wright [9:20 AM]
Just a reminder, this exists: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4ajQ-foj2Q
Steve Hickey [9:37 AM]
@timw ha! JGL has a pretty epic knee slide during tiny dancer
Jayne Hetherington [9:40 AM]
another reason to have JGL at uxfest
Tim Wright [9:41 AM]
he already declined accessibility day
Tim Wright [9:41 AM]
He was like, “Screw you, tim”
Steve Hickey [9:41 AM]
our floors aren’t really suited to knee slides. can we upgrade them?
Tim Wright [9:42 AM]
we’ll rub crisco all over them
Tim Wright [9:42 AM]
it’s better to apologize
Steve Hickey [9:43 AM]
how much crisco do we need to overcome a rug?
Steve Hickey [9:43 AM]
we’ll need enough to make sure that the weight of JGL doesn’t push all the way down to carpet
Steve Hickey [9:43 AM]
at which point we’ve created a mud pit
Steve Hickey [9:43 AM]
unless we lay down a tarp first…
Steve Hickey [9:44 AM]
let’s go prototype this
Jayne Hetherington [9:44 AM]
we can rent a dance floor from the place next to Russo’s
Damian Priday [9:46 AM]
@steve: I think we are safe on the weight of JGL, it would be Stephen Merchant I would be worried about. He’s lanky…but he’s sooooo tall
Jayne Hetherington [9:46 AM]
I’m only concerned about having JGL here
Damian Priday [9:46 AM]
Also has nobody thought about baiting JGL into UXfest by inviting Zoey Dechanel? (spelling?)
Steve Hickey [9:46 AM]
i don’t think crisco can maintain enough cohesion to handle the weight of most people
Steve Hickey [9:47 AM]
unless we cool it down…
Steve Hickey [9:47 AM]
ok, we need a bunch of portable AC units
Steve Hickey [9:47 AM]
or maybe we need to evaluate a different substance
Tim Wright [9:47 AM]
woah woah woah
Tim Wright [9:47 AM]
hang on
Jayne Hetherington [9:47 AM]
a dance floor rental wouldn’t be too expensive. plus we could offer him pretzel crisps and kind bars
Tim Wright [9:47 AM]
we need to define MVP first
Tim Wright [9:47 AM]
we’ll need a deep dive
Steve Hickey [9:48 AM]
well, obviously it’s a sign up page to ask if users are interested in knee slide floors
Jayne Hetherington [9:48 AM]
I volunteer to PM
Steve Hickey [9:48 AM]
and letting them know we’ll email them when ours is ready
Damian Priday [9:48 AM]
I’ll book the 4th floor conference room, we are going to need all hands on deck for this
Jayne Hetherington [9:48 AM]
it’s a short timeline, but I think we can do it if we maximize efficiencies
Steve Hickey [9:48 AM]
don’t worry, i’ll download bootstrap, we should be up and running in a few minutes if we just use that
Jeremy Sabath [9:49 AM]
damn I picked the wrong day to wfh
Jayne Hetherington [9:49 AM]
see if JGL is sharing a Kind bar with you, @jeremysabath
Damian Priday [9:49 AM]
hurry in @jeremysabath we are starting without you, but we’ll get you caught up to speed.
Jeremy Sabath [9:50 AM]
just pour some crisco on the roads and I’ll bodyslide to work, it’s faster
Steve Hickey [9:50 AM]
can we just post this entire conversation on the blog?
Jeremy Sabath [9:50 AM]
but then people will steal the ideas!!
Richard Banfield [9:50 AM]
I insist
Jayne Hetherington [9:51 AM]
but then maybe it will get to JGL and he’ll come!
Jeremy Sabath [9:51 AM]
omg do it
Steve Hickey [9:51 AM]
i’ll get this up later today
Steve Hickey [9:51 AM]
can somebody start a Basecamp project for me, add time-tracking to Harvest and invite me?
Steve Hickey [9:52 AM]
i’ll need a comprehensive list of to-dos
Jeremy Sabath [9:52 AM]
there are some extra empathy map outlines on easel paper, we could use one for each of JGLs movie character personalities
Richard Banfield [9:53 AM]
You all know about this right? http://www.hitrecord.org/
Jayne Hetherington [9:53 AM]
but the thing we’re making is… a floor
Steve Hickey [9:53 AM]
for looper, do we only evaluate his character, or do we also evaluate bruce willis’ character as he is an older version of JGL
Jayne Hetherington [9:54 AM]
both, but as separate personas that overlap
Damian Priday [9:54 AM]
@steve: We leave out Looper, its not part of our target JGL segment
Steve Hickey [9:54 AM]
LEAVE OUT LOOPER?!
Damian Priday [9:54 AM]
i know, it had to be said
Steve Hickey [9:54 AM]
ok, but dark knight rises stays in right?
Jayne Hetherington [9:54 AM]
like the buyer/seller personas from flashnotes, some overlap, but also distinct personas
Steve Hickey [9:54 AM]
tim, what’s the best JGL movie?
Damian Priday [9:55 AM]
do you think Im happy about this steve? thats how dark knight rises stays!
Damian Priday [9:55 AM]
500 days of summer haha
Jeremy Sabath [9:55 AM]
clearly 500 days
Jayne Hetherington [9:55 AM]
yea, that’s obvious
Jeremy Sabath [9:55 AM]
i mean… the chemistry is just…
Damian Priday [9:56 AM]
also the reason we invite Zoey Dechanel
Damian Priday [9:56 AM]
kind of a hipster / nerdy / smiths loving ‘if you build it…’
Tim Wright [9:56 AM]
500 Days of Summer sucked
Jayne Hetherington [9:56 AM]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TNEkwcY7OI0
Tim Wright [9:56 AM]
emo garbage
Jayne Hetherington [9:56 AM]
That did not suck
Tim Wright [9:56 AM]
Emo garbage!
Tim Wright [9:57 AM]
Don John was better
Damian Priday [9:57 AM]
don john should have won an oscar
Jayne Hetherington [9:57 AM]
and this. COME ON
Jayne Hetherington [9:57 AM]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p6t0iuCE_rY
Damian Priday [9:57 AM]
are we forgetting though, his early work? 3rd rock????
Tim Wright [9:57 AM]
Inception was his best movie, followed by Looper
Tim Wright [9:58 AM]
He was on 1 episode of Quantum Leap that I’d rank above 500 Days of Summer
Steve Hickey [9:59 AM]
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0330687/?ref_=nv_sr_1
Steve Hickey [9:59 AM]
looks like we’ve covered the top material
Jayne Hetherington [9:59 AM]
What about Angels in the Outfield
kristystetson [10:00 AM]
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0370986/
Damian Priday [10:01 AM]
Hesher? anybody? anybody? Hesher?
Richard Banfield [10:02 AM]
Why has nobody mentioned 3rd Rock?
Kelly Powell [10:02 AM]
3rd Rock, one mile up on this thread.
Damian Priday [10:02 AM]
I did, and everybody missed it
Kelly Powell [10:02 AM]
Not me @damian — I hang on every word!
Richard Banfield [10:03 AM]
I was getting worried I was just old
Mark Grambau [10:19 AM]
Regarding the Crisco, @steve, we don’t want to maximize _cohesion_, we want to minimize _adhesion_. Cohesion, emphasis on the *co*, is the bonding of two *similar* things, while *adhesion*, emphasis on *ad*, is the bonding of two different things. JGL & the carpet are two different materials, their relationship would be adhesive, which we want to minimize. JGL and carpet would have a high coefficient of friction. We want that coefficient of friction down to as close to zero as possible. Crisco may not do it. If we want to avoid the hefty installation costs of a new floor, we could always go Slip ‘n Slide.
Mark Grambau [10:19 AM]
This has been another episode of “Mark Remembers Small Pieces of High School Physics.”
Steve Hickey [10:20 AM]
i believe i covered that entire paragraph when i said “tarp”
