Digital Design Leadership Interviews: Tracey Halvorsen

by Richard Banfield

What makes a leader of a digital design team successful? How do they build the best possible team? How did they get their start? What is their approach to culture, process and project management? What are the macro influences that influence their decisions?

This year we launched our UXPERT program. The idea behind UXPERT is to give all our team members an opportunity to study a topic that would deepen their domain knowledge. For a long time I’ve been fascinated by Digital Design Leadership so I’ve made it the focus of my study. The objective will be to gain insights into what makes leaders of digital design agencies, consultancies and digital product companies successful. To get these insights I will be interviewing between 60-75 founders, CEO’s and product leads throughout North America and Europe. These video interviews will be posted here, along with the the audio and transcripts, when available.

Our travels have already taken us to Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Portland, Boulder and Denver. With the help of Dan Allard and Indiewhip’s team behind the camera and the in the studio, I have already interviewed 15 leaders. The first set of video’s will go live this month followed by weekly updates.

The first interview is with one of my favorite people in the design space, Tracey Halvorsen from FastSpot. Tracey’s no-BS approach to work and life is an inspiration. Her passion for doing world class work and always doing what’s right is infectious. Our interview was shot during one of the breaks at the {Experience:dev} event hosted at our offices. Enjoy!
